Nikki Dawson

Principal and legal director of the practice

Nikki has over 20 years of experience as a Solicitor and now practices exclusively in family law. Providing pragmatic, strategic and thorough advice, Nikki’s clients are in good hands.

All aspects of family law, including property settlement, parenting matters, domestic violence, divorce, child support and spousal maintenance, are well-known territory for Nikki.

Nikki has a special interest in the Collaborative Law process, and prides herself on keeping clients out of court and in control.

Where circumstances do require court litigation, Nikki is an experienced advocate and regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and also in the State jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court of Queensland.

Nikki was born and raised in Townsville and is well known and respected within the Townsville community. Outside of the office, you can find Nikki living on rural acreage and teaching her boys how to ride a horse (or a tractor), hiking new landscapes or enjoying a good book.

Courtney Aitken

Senior Associate

Courtney has practised exclusively in family law since 2014. Clients that have benefited from her experience, guidance and support consistently recommend her to their family, friends and associates. Courtney empowers her clients by explaining the law and legal process, and how it applies to them, in uncomplicated terms.

Courtney practises in all areas of family law, including parenting matters, property settlements, divorce, child support, spousal maintenance and domestic and family violence matters.

From the outset, Courtney’s clients are given realistic advice and a clear pathway to achieve their desired goals. Courtney prides herself on her efficiency, allowing her clients to achieve a resolution as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Through her experience, Courtney appreciates the lasting benefits for clients, and their children, in resolving matters by agreement where possible. For matters requiring litigation, Courtney has a wealth of experience in appearing in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and the Magistrates Court of Queensland for domestic and violence applications.

When out of the office, Courtney enjoys watching her children grow, hiking the stunning North Queensland landscapes and travelling to explore new places.

Laura Jackson

Office Manager and Paralegal

Laura brings a wealth of legal administrative experience to the firm, having worked in the legal industry since 2013. Laura is also an accredited Justice of the Peace. Laura broadened her practice management skillset over the past five years and will shortly finish her studies to become an accredited bookkeeper.

Nikki and Laura have worked together for more than 10 years and they make a formidable team.

Clients benefit from Laura’s no-nonsense approach, outstanding organisational skills and high level of attention to detail.

When out of the office, Laura is a dedicated Mum of three and enjoys spending her time outdoors with her family.
